What to Do When You Stain Your White Shirt with Chocolate?

“Stains stand out much more on white fabrics than on any other type of fabric. If you have stained your favourite white shirt with chocolate and now you are looking for a simple and effective cleaning method to deal with the stain, you are on the right “spot”. These methods involve household items, such as club soda and ammonia, that are not only effective solutions for removing chocolate from white fabric, but they are also an inexpensive and safe alternative to the commercial stain removal products. Tackle chocolate stains as soon as they occur following the methods below for best result.
Instructions

  1. Use ammonia to dissolve the chocolate stain. Dilute 1 tablespoon of ammonia in 2 cup of water and pour some of the solution directly onto the stain. Use a damp cloth to blot up the solution and some of the stain too. Once you have removed as much of the chocolate stain as possible, launder the fabric as usual and hang it out to air dry.
  2. Try removing the chocolate stain with club soda. Pour club soda onto the stained area and let it soak into the fabric for about 15 minutes, as suggested by cleaners Bellingham. Blot at the area with a clean, white cloth to take out the club soda, then wash the fabric as you normally would.
  3. Make a soapy solution of equal parts liquid laundry detergent and water. Soak the stained area of the fabric in the soapy solution for about 15 minutes, then launder the fabric as usual.
  4. If the stain has already dried on your white fabric, consider using a commercial stain remover specifically designed for removing chocolate stains, as advised by cleaners Berrylands. Apply the stain remover to the stain and let it work on the dried chocolate for about 5 minutes. Wash the fabric and let it air dry.

Keep in mind that you may have to try a particular cleaning method several times before the chocolate stain disappears completely, so don’t give up too quickly if the stain doesn’t come out of your white shirt from first try.
