Top 5 Cairngorm Hotels

Need a holiday? But it’s the middle of winter. Surely it isn’t the time of year to be going away! Well, think again. Why not make the most of the recent snow instead of cowering away inside? Why not do something worthwhile and fun this winter? Why not consider some of the following hotel breaks Scotland? We’ve compiled a list of our five favourite hotels in the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands. If this doesn’t get you pulling on your woolly hat and gloves and warming up the car, nothing will.

First up is the affectionately named Log Cabin Hotel in Kirkmichael. The name doesn’t lie either. This quaint little three star is built in the traditional Norwegian style from Nordic pine wood. It is nestled in a tranquil woodland, abundant with wildlife, in the Perthshire Highlands. Just down the road, a very scenic road at that, is the Glenshee Ski Centre. So don’t forget those salopettes and goggles!

Next up, just a leisurely stroll from the centre of nearby Pitlochry, is the four star Knockendarroch Hotel. This awe inspiring Victorian building commands amazing views of the surrounding landscape, including of Ben Vrackie and the Tummel Valley. You can sit beside toasty warm, log fires, sipping fine Scotch single malts in the lounge, or perhaps stroll into town for the Theatre or other cultural entertainment.

What kind of list would this be if we missed out The Cairngorm Hotel itself, situated in the North of the Park, in the highland resort town of Aviemore. Whether you are interested in skiing, hiking, fishing or nightlife, this is the hotel for you!

For the very finest in Cairngorm hotels there can be only the Hotel Glendavan. Beautifully situated in Aboyne, near to Ballater, this luxurious five star combines antique Victorian furniture with the best of the modern age – that is Wifi and DVD players in all rooms. The full Scottish breakfast is also not to be missed.

Finally, for a Balmoral castle hotel, try the Hilton Craigendarroch. This elegant but affordable Royal Deeside hotel is actually Hilton’s smallest in the world. It is within easy reach of all the major tourist destinations, from the ski slopes to Balmoral Castle.
