Liverpool Pub Has to Shut Until Redecorated After Shooting

A Liverpool pub has been told that it must now close until it has at least been refurbished, after a man was shot there in the leg on Christmas Day. With all the various hotels in Derby that there are, it is now this one that has become the focal point of the media this week.

The West Derby Hotel, in West Derby, had been told that decorators must now come in after an incident in which a man was shot in the leg and wounded. The 23-year-old man was shot by a pistol four times after he had been lured into the beer garden where the event took place in the pub which is often locally known as ‘The Barries’ 24 year-old James McDonough, from Harper Road in Walton, has already been charged with attempted murder and attended a preliminary hearing at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday. The provisional date for the trial has been set on the 25th June 2012 by Judge Clement Goldstone, even though he himself has not entered a plea yet. McDonough was arrested by officers from the Matrix Squad, Merseyside Police’s anti-guns and gangs unit. Liverpool council’s licensing committee also ordered that the premises supervisor Victoria Murray must be replaced immediately or the pub will have to shut down. Many have even gone as far as to suggest that that Clubscan identity scanners should be imposed in pubs.

This comes after Yates’s Wine Lodge in Allerton Road also being told that they must stay shut until they have redecorated last week. If you are visiting the Derby area but maybe would like to have more peace of mind in where you stay, Derby is still generally a very safe and friendly are but there are also many Liverpool city centre hotels available at your disposal. Either way, it looks like there won’t be any pistols going off in the near future in the West Derby region.
