How to Remove Latex Paint from a Carpet

Latex- based paint is much easier to remove from carpets than oil-based paints but there is still a chance to end up with a permanent paint stain if you don’t act accurate. Here are some simple steps to follow in order to successfully remove latex paint stains from your carpet.
Wet Paint Stains
The first thing you should do is to prevent the paint from spreading. Use some paper towels or a clean cloth to blot the excess paint as soon as it is spilled on the carpet. When removing wet paint stains, remember never to rub the stains as this will only push the paint deep into the fibers of the carpet, making it very difficult to get rid of the stain afterwards. Once you have lifted as much paint as you can, dab at the stained area repeatedly using a clean cloth or towel dampened with warm soapy water. Keep blotting the spot until no more paint comes out of the carpet as rotating the towel or the rag to a clean portion each time you go to dab at the stain again. Once you have removed most of the wet paint, use a steam cleaner or a shampoo machine to completely remove the stain from your carpet. Consult a cleaning company, such as cleaners Brockley, about a suitable cleaning product if your carpet is old or antique.
Dry Paint Stains
If the latex paint has already dried, scrape off as much of it as possible using a dull object, such as the back of a butter knife. Next, you have to liquefy the paint in order to complete the stain removal. Pour isopropyl alcohol generously over the affected area and let it soak into the stain for a few minutes. Then, scrape off the stain once again with the butter knife to loosen the paint from the fibers and blot up what comes out with a towel or rag. Remove the remainder of the paint with a steam cleaner or a carpet cleaning machine.
If you stick to the above cleaning techniques, you shouldn’t have problems removing latex paint from you carpet, no matter if it is a wet stain or a stain that has dried. However, if you face any difficulties getting rid of the stain, you can always turn to cleaners Brockley for help.
