How to Properly Clean Chamois Upholstery

If you have to deal with chamois upholstery in your home, you need to know some basic rules about it. It is not so easy to maintain and clean, that’s why it needs proper cares and at a regular basis. The fabrics that it is made of are very porous and absorbent and can be easily ruined if the cleaning is not properly done. However, if you keep this type of upholstery clean as long as possible, it won’t need a deep cleaning at all. You should only spruce it up from time to time to return its beauty and good looking.

Here you are some basic techniques and instructions for chamois upholstery cleaning, you may follow to be satisfied from the final results.

  • You know there is a lot of dirt on the upholstery surface and it’s best to start with removing it before the real cleaning and applying the cleaning products. Take a dry rag and work with it the entire surface of the upholstery. If there are stains, treat them first and remember that it is best to clean them as quickly as possible when they occur to prevent the fabrics from absorbing.
  • Continue with vacuuming the upholstery with the hose attachment of your vacuum machine. It helps pulling out the dirt and dust accumulated in the fabrics.
  • Prepare a soapy solution from one quart water and a few drops of soap or shower gel. Stir thoroughly to make a bubbling solution. Use a cotton rag dipped in this mixture and rub the upholstery surface with it.
  • Use another rag dipped in clean water this time to rinse the soapy residue from the upholstery surface. Make sure it is fully removed before you stop the upholstery cleaning with the rag.
  • Take a clean cotton cloth to remove the moisture and dry the chamois upholstery. Work it in circular motions. Never leave chamois upholstery to dry on air because it will become stiff.
  • For better protection of the chamois use a good conditioner and spray a little amount of it onto the surface. It will keep the chamois good looking and will prevent humidity from occurring.
