By making you own carpet cleaner, you will not only save money but will also keep the environment toxic-free, as all the ingredients are natural products that you most probably have at home. To make the suggested natural carpet cleaner, you will need vinegar and water. It may seem simple solution but it is quite effective cleaner.

  1. Fill 2/3 of the carpet shampooer’s tank with very hot water. You can purchase a shampooing machine from almost any grocery or hardware store. Add 2 cups of vinegar for each gallon of water you have poured into your shampooer either to the water tank or the cleaning solution tank. If your carpet is very dirty, consider adding ½ cup of Borax to help with the cleaning process.
  2. Test a small area of your carpet to ensure the cleaning solution will not damage the carpet’s colours or fibers. You should do this step always no matter if you are using a store-bought or homemade cleaning solution.
  3. Shampoo your carpet as following the label instructions of the cleaning machine. The vinegar will remove any stains and smells that have stuck into your carpet. You should not worry about the vinegar odour as it will dissipate as soon as the carpet is dry, according to cleaners Shooters Hill. However, since this solution is not harsh, you may need to go over the stained areas several times in order to clean them thoroughly.
  4. You can rinse the carpet by going over it with the shampooer filled only with fresh water. This is not necessary, but you may want to do it if the vinegar smell is too strong for you.

Once the carpet has dried, vacuum it to restore its natural look. In case you are not able to clean your carpet on your own, consider calling professionals, such as cleaners Shepherds Bush, to do the job for you.
