How to Maintain an Oriental Rug Clean

Oriental rugs can add an extra piece of cosiness to any home with their variety of shapes, colours and materials. Having such a carpet at your home requires proper cares to be preserved in top condition for many years. An authentic oriental rug needs to be cleaned the right way so you don’t damage the delicate fibers it has. Although, it would be better to hire professionals to clean the rug, you can also take care of the oriental rug on your own with certain cleaning tools.

  1. Get your vacuum cleaner and run it over your oriental rug in all directions to remove any loose dirt and particles. Turn the rug backside up and vacuum the other side as well.
  2. Hang the oriental rug outside on a clothesline or a deck railing and then beat out any remaining dirt using a rug beater. Be careful not to tear the rug if it is old.
  3. Sweep a flat, open surface such as patio or concrete driveway to remove any grime and then lay your oriental rug on that surface. Vacuum once more time to get rid of any loosened dirt left of the beating process.
  4. Fill a bucket with vinegar and wool cleaner in proportions 1 to 1 and mix thoroughly using a long handled spoon.
  5. Dip a soft-bristled brush into the mixture and gently rub the oriental rug starting from one end and working in small sections towards the other end, as advised by cleaners Romford.
  6. Wipe off as much of the cleaning solution as you can with a clean, damp cloth, and then hang the oriental rug in sun to air dry.
  7. Take the rug inside after it has dried completely.

Note: Test the cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area of the rug before applying it to the entire surface to ensure it won’t cause colour bleeding. If discolouration occurs, consider using cleaners Roehampton services to take care of your oriental rug.
