How to Green Clean with Food Products

Although the title of this article sounds bizarre in more than one ways, the idea behind it is very true indeed. Items that you might eat or drink or cook with, can serve a secondary function as well. I am talking about cleaning your house of course.

You really don’t need to hire professional cleaning services to leave your home spotless and spend all those money on chemical cleaners. Here is how you can achieve these results.

Has your microwave’s inside turned into a greasy messy with no distinctive colour? If so, then you do not really need to exhaust your arm scrubbing. What you need is a lemon. Prepare a container that can be microwaved, such as a large coffee mug or china bowl that can hold water. The bigger the better, but on average 300ml of water is ideal. The water doesn’t need to be preheated. Slice the lemon into two halves, squeeze the juice into the water and then place the bowl in the microwave at the highest temperature for approximately ten minutes. This will cause the water to evaporate and soften the stains. Plus once you are done wiping the stains, there will be a nice citrus smell to your microwave oven.

Let’s move to the dishwasher, which also needs to be cleaned from time to time. Just as I did with the microwave, I will have the dishwasher clean itself. What’s needed is white vinegar. Pour one cup of vinegar into a measuring cup and pour it into the bottom of your dishwasher. The best choice for the task is white distilled vinegar, which is cheap and quite effective. Set your dishwasher to its hottest settings and let the vinegar do wonders.

Last, but not least, let’s head over to the bathroom, in particular, the toilet. One of the problems with toilet bowls are old stains and lime scale on the ceramic. Forget about the expensive detergents. What you need is a bottle of coke. Go ahead and pour it into and around the bowl. Allow the coke to sit for at least one hour, so that the phosphoric acid breaks down stains and lime scale. Proceed to scrub with your toilet brush and then flush it clean.

There you have it. A fantastic clean with a budget less than ten pounds.
