How to Get Stains Out of Carpet

There are many stain removal products available on the market, but their efficiency often depends on the type of stain. Some stubborn stains may require more than one cleaning method to be removed, but if you are patient, even the nastiest stains can be eliminated without professional help. Here are a few cleaning methods on how to get stains out of carpet by yourself.
Instructions

  1. Tackle carpet stains with a detergent solution of ΒΌ teaspoon of hand soap or bleach-free dish soap, and 1 quart of warm water. Spray the mixture over the stain using a spray bottle, then soak it up with a clean white cloth. Many stains can be removed with a detergent, which makes it a perfect solution for initial treatment, according to cleaners Brixton.
  2. For stains caused by beer, wine and blood, soak the affected area with a mixture of equal parts white vinegar and water, and leave it undisturbed for a quarter hour. Soak a white cloth into warm water, and rinse the area by blotting with the cloth. Place a stack of paper towels on the area and press them down with a couple of heavy books until the carpet dries.
  3. For stains caused by egg, ketchup, vomit, urine and mustard, apply a mixture of equal parts ammonia and water to the stained area using a spray bottle. Do not soak the carpet with the solution, just make sure to slightly wet the stain. Use paper towels to blot the stain, then let the carpet air dry.
  4. Use rubbing alcohol to deal with grease stains such as lipstick, gravy, salad dressing, or crayon. Moisten a white cloth with rubbing alcohol, and blot until the stain is gone. Blot the stain only in one direction to prevent it from spreading.
  5. Remove stubborn stains by combining several cleaning techniques. First, apply the detergent solution and blot it up with a dry cloth. Then, blot with the vinegar solution and reapply the detergent mixture. If the stain remains, try the ammonia solution before hiring professionals such as cleaners Brixton.
