How to Get Oil Out of Carpet

Carpets are subjected to daily use, and unfortunately, that use makes them susceptible to all sorts of stains. Luckily, even the most stubborn stain can be removed with the right tools and methods. Figuring out what type of stain you are dealing with is essential to its removal. Once you figure out whether the stain came from olive oil dressing or a grease food item, you can successfully get rid of it with common household products.
Instructions

  1. Get the following items: butter knife or spoon, baking soda, vacuum cleaner, white rags, dry cleaning solvent, white vinegar and liquid dish soap that doesn’t contain bleach.
  2. Carefully spoon and scrape off the excess oil using a spoon or butter knife. Any careless treatment can cause much worse mess than it was!
  3. Cover the stain with baking soda and leave it there for 20 minutes to extract some of the oil from the carpet, then suck it up using your vacuum cleaner. According to carpet cleaning Clapham, you can also use cornstarch or baby powder instead of baking soda.
  4. Use a clean, white rag moistened with dry cleaning solvent to dab at the oil stain until it is saturated.
  5. Absorb the liquid by blotting the stained area with a dry white rag. Wait for the area to dry completely, and inspect for any oil residue.
  6. If the oil is still visible, make a mixture of 2 cups of warm water, 1 tablespoon of bleach-free liquid dish soap and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Use a clean, white rag to sponge the solution onto the stain, then blot with another clean rag to remove the moisture and the stain. Use a clean rag and cold water to rinse the carpet, then blot dry with a dry rag.

No matter what type of stain you are removing, always blot it from outside in for the best results. If you don’t feel equipped to deal with the stain, you’d better consult with carpet cleaning Clapham to avoid damaging the carpet.
