How to Clean Down Pillows

Usually, pillows come in different shapes, sizes, designs and are made for different purposes. There are decorative pillows that people place on their couches or sofas to improve the look of their home interior and there are pillows which people use only for sleeping. On the other hand, down pillows are designed both for comfort and elegance.

The good news are that down pillows are not difficult to clean. Therefore it would not be a mission impossible to keep them clean. Moreover, London cleaners say that for the cleaning of your down pillows you do not need to use any special machines or a dry cleaner. If you know what you are doing, you can wash your down pillows in the washing machine. And here are a few tips that can help you to achieve the desired results.

  1. Examine your down pillows for loose seams or rips first. Otherwise, if you put a pillow that has damages on it in the washing machine, the result will be something like a washer full of feathers. So, do not take this risk and check your pillows for any damages first.

  2. Leave the washing machine fill halfway with water then add ½ cup of your laundry detergent. Stop the machine and put two of your down pillows in it, one on each side. This way you will be able to keep the balance of the washer. When the washing cycle is over let the pillows sit under water for about 3 hours, before running the machine for another cycle.

  3. Wait the washing cycle to end and put the pillows through another spin cycle to remove as much water as you can. London cleaning professionals recommend drying in the dryer with a pair of clean athletic shoes to make the feathers in the pillows fluff, during the drying process.
