How to Clean a Silk Scarf

1. At first place, you should pick the best cleaning agent that is mild enough to not damage the fabric. Read the manufacturer’s instructions on the bottle and apply a little amount of the detergent on some hidden area of the fabric to test it. For the purpose, you can use some mild dish-washing liquid or some other, specially designed for silk fabrics solution.

2. Make a solution of 1 tablespoon of salt, 2-3 drops of your cleaning detergent or dish-washing liquid and water. Then soak the scarf into the mixture and let it sit for 3 minutes. The salt will preserve the colours from bleeding. Rinse thoroughly with cold water until the soapy solution is washed out then squeeze the scarf to remove as much excess water as you can.\

3. Fill your sink with water and add ½ cup of white vinegar to wash the scarf again. Rinse thoroughly with cold water. The white vinegar will make the silk shine. To dry the scarf, London cleaners recommend rolling it in a clean, dry towel. Then softly squeeze the towel to remove as much water as you can. Unroll the scarf and place it on a clean, soft towel to air-dry.
