Hasrat Jaipuri

Iqbal Husain was actually the original name of the great Indian poet. He wrote verses not only for his fan readers, but also for movie addicts, i.e. he was famous lyricist of film songs. Known as Hasrat Jaipuri, the inspirational artist created his works in Urdu, Persian and Hindi. His first attempts in writing poetry started at the beginning of his 20’s. A muse of one of those works was a girl he fell in love with. Even though she did not read the dedicated to her verse, later on it became extremely popular song theme to a romantic movie of a leading at that time producer, Raj Kapoor. This figure played a huge role in the poet’s life for he, on numerous occasions, relied on Jaipuri and Shailendra’s talent for his movies’ musical background. This fruitful joint collaboration turned out quite well for around a dozen of years, however one day Shailendra died and the things change their direction.
Some of the songs Jaipuri wrote next for Kapoor were rather considered failures and the producer decided to change his musical staff for his following productions.
Jaipuri believed that his creations spread love and his sole purpose was to fill the void in people’s lives presenting them with piece of love. He was very affectionate towards writing title songs. This, however was not an easy task, one should take in mind the whole plot of the movie in order to create the right song lyrics, that will reflect in details the idea and the mood of the film.
Later on Kapoor again turned to the art of Jaipuri for a couple of movies of his, but his sudden death kind of separated the poet from the movie song writing – the producer’s follower rejected working with Jaipuri.
Jaipuri twice won the Filmfare Award for lyrics in “Suraj” – the first in 1966 and the second in 1972. He even wrote a script for a movie called “Hulchul”.
