Family Everywhere

For someone that has always been home for Christmas, the thought of being away from my loved ones on such a wonderful day was not a thought that I enjoyed. Unfortunately, the winter of 2009 had been a cold one, and flights in and out of my hometown airport were shut down for quite some time. I, being in Scotland on business, began to look into alternate options. I could fly to this city, change flights and then fly to another city, have a 6 hour layover, and then catch another flight. Although I was willing to take such drastic actions, it would not have been beneficial, as I would have arrived late in the evening. For that reason, my family and I would have to have Christmas over the internet. I had my laptop which had a pretty good camera built into it. I know it wouldn’t be the same, but at least it was better than nothing.

Conversing over the internet that day was not an issue, but being able to physically be there too give and receive hugs was the biggest thing for me. I can not describe the feeling in words, but I will never miss another Christmas again as a result of it. Sure my Short breaks Scotland hotel was great during Christmas. They had a tree decorated, a fireplace, and even a bagpiper. While Hotel breaks Scotland did absolutely everything they could, it just wasn’t the same as being home. I appreciate the effort that Hotel breaks Scotland put into everything, as it must have taken them days to organize it all. Upon leaving my Short breaks Scotland hotel, I realized that the staff had almost become family during my short stay. It was kind of an odd idea to me, but I suppose I was leaving one family to go to another. It is nice to know you have family everywhere.
