An Unforgettable Evening of Lights

Every once and a while you come across an attraction while travelling that is truly unique to a country. In this instance, I am speaking of a light festival that occurred in Scotland last year. Now, I have seen numerous light shows in the past, and some of them were quite impressive. Yet, I have never come across anything that captured my imagination as the one in central Scotland. Apparently it is put on by the Pitlochry Area Community Interest Company, whatever that is, and happens annually. While we were not planning on attending the festival, we had the luck of being advised by one of our hotel staff that it was always a great time. Thus, since we had nothing to do that evening, we decided to give it a shot. We are sure glad that we did.

The light show uses a natural backdrop which makes it all the more interesting. Typically, as least the light shows that I have seen in the past, these types of events are held indoors. This is understandable as it is much easier to preserve the show, and it keeps potentially unfavourable weather out of the equation. Yet, to have the show outside only added to the experience. We travelled about 2 hours from our Dunblane hotel, in retrospect it would have been more beneficial to stay at a Coylumbridge hotel, but we had no idea at the time. The Coylumbridge hotel would have been more convenient, yet we have no regrets concerning our beautiful Dunblane hotel. It just goes to show how a little bit of luck can produce an unforgettable experience. I am truly thankful for the hotel staff that provided us with this information that I sent him a thank you card, and even recommended the hotel to several friends so far.
