Alternative Ways to See Latin America

Latin America is a part of the world that is at once fascinating, beautiful and, to many people, somewhat intimidating. High crime levels in countries such as Brazil, Mexico and Colombia can put would-be visitors from travelling here, while the language barrier and other cultural concerns can be enough to put the more timid of travellers from taking solo journeys here.

Seeing Latin America with the help of a volunteer agency can be the ideal way to overcome fears and get to know this wonderful and diverse part of the world in a safe and non-intimidating way.At the same time, volunteers will be making a real difference to the communities that they work in, helping to bring positive change where it is sorely needed.

Volunteer in Costa Rica, for example, will be able to take in the many sights of this beautiful country, and can head off on their trip safe in the knowledge that their accommodation will have been arranged for them, and that volunteer agency staff will be able to help them should they have any questions or concerns about their placement.

Volunteering is a very different way to see a country than visiting as a tourist, and will five visitors a real insight into communities, and an opportunity to get to know the locals far better than would be possible on a flying visit as a tourist.

Volunteer placements can take a lot of the fear and anxiety out of travelling to parts of the world that, for many people, are a little daunting. This is particularly true of solo travellers, who may be too nervous to travel on their own but may be able to take the plunge knowing that they have the backup support offered by a volunteer agency.

Volunteer in Costa Rica or other Latin American countries will be able to do plenty of travelling too – it would be a shame to travel so far and not see all that it is possible to see – and it is very likely that at accommodation organised by their volunteer agency volunteers will meet like-minded people who may become travel companions and even lifelong friends.
