White vinegar and lemon juice are natural acidic cleaners with a low pH that can help you to remove the rust stain from your carpet. Use one of these natural cleaners at a time. It is a good idea to test the cleaning agent on an inconspicuous area first. Start treating the rust stain by scraping off any hard residue first. Then, either pour a small amount of white vinegar or lemon juice on the stained  area or blot the acid into the stain with a damp cloth. Wait for an hour, then blot at the area with a clean towel until the stain is removed.

Use hydrogen peroxide to remove the rust stain if all else fails. Since the hydrogen peroxide may cause discolouration, test in on a small, hidden spot of your carpet first, as recommended by cleaners Motspur Park. Let the area dry before determining if the peroxide will cause discolouration to the carpet. Apply the hydrogen peroxide directly to the rusted area and let it work on the stain for about an hour. Use a clean towel to blot the rust stain. If necessary, repeat the process.
